Default So is it true?

Is it true hat the more heros and henchman you take with you limits or reduces the "type of drops" and quantity of drops?

example. assume 7 henchys and 1 main go out they bring in 1k of items and gold where as 1 main goes out and brings in 3k. is this substantial proof or does the amount of party memebers effect drop rates?

Yes. The fewer party members, the more you're going to get yourself.

As I understand it, the items go directly into their inventory, thus reducing the amount of drops you see, but the number of drops stay the same. When you have a party of 8 players, you will see a lot more drops, as you can see the items because they aren't placed directly into the inventory.

The loot scaling mechanism increase the number of drops according to the number of characters in your party, but not for all the types of drops.

http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Loot

It you wanted to know if bringing H/H instead of other human players, in some way makes the drops "worse", well, i heard this voice around..but i haven't any proof of this..

loot scaling means you dont get all the drops outside a full party.
and in a full party whether that be human or hench, distribution is equal. any conceived difference in drop rate from full human to mostly hench is due to not seeing what drops the npcs get.

so the drops to you remain the same? if i go out with H/H vs me/others i should get the same amount of drops to me i just wont see that bill got a ecto instead of me and be pissy bout it LOL. and if i recall lootscaling does not effect rare drops such as golds and greens correct?... i think so LOL.

I have no idea how to move posts but this one belongs in Q/A section :P

Answer: yes. Henchies do reduce drop. You can check wiki for more info about it ^^

From wiki:

Quote:
With loot scaling, players receive an amount of normal drops (common and uncommon rarity items, collectable drops, gold, common crafting materials) proportionate to the size of their party as compared to a full party. For example, a solo farmer will on average get the same number of blue weapons as a player in an eight person party. The only items exempt from this rule are:

* Skill Tomes
* Insight and Passage Scrolls
* Dyes
* Rare crafting materials
* All rare (gold) items
* All unique (green) items
* Special event items

Thus, the size of a farming party, with respect to loot, only affects the distribution of the exempt items.
In my other post i was saying that the total amount of drop (exempted from this list) assigned to all the party increases with the party size. So, a single character receives more or less always the same.

If you are in a team of 8 players, each player would get about the same amount of drops compared to if they instead were in a team by themselves with heroes and hench.

loot scaling was of course introduced to discourage solo farming, especially botting. one of the supposed upsides of it is loot no longer reduces with repeated zoning into the same area. although sometimes it feels like they forgot to take that part out

Because players take drops when they party with you. But 7 NPCs who replace players shouldn't? Your suggestion would discourage grouping, as it would be more profitable to play with NPCs then with humans.

It's not like the litterally get the drops. They just nullify the chances of a better drop.

It was implemented as a balance factor. If they did not nullify these things, they would gain a huge advantage over a team of humans. Even today they have a lot of advantages, so removing this would only make it more imbalanced lol.

I don't know if this will check out or not, but I have observed that having a hero or henchies in your party will actually reduce the drop rate beyound that of a human.
For example, 7 humans and one henchie the overall drops will be less for each player than if all 8 had been human. Anyone know if research has been done on this?

Given that I saw somewhere on guru that loot tables are decided at zoning, couldn't we have two groups, one with henchies, one with players zone at the same time?

ps. Although I also saw some research that killing speed also determines drop rate, so I figure that test is not really accurate.

pps. Maybe someone could find those topics and link em, because I couldn't find them.

There does seem to be a common misconseption between loot scaling and loot distribution

For a party of 8 in an 8 man area will get about the same number of drops per person, whether or not som of those party members are heroes and henchmen. We just don't see the drops not awarded to human players. That's loot distribution

For a party of less than 8 in an 8 man area the drops per party are less than for the 8 man party. So a solo farmer in an 8 man area doesn't get the same as the total number of drops for a full human 8 man team. That's loot scaling

If you have 7 real people in your party vs 7 henchmen, you yourself will still get the same number of drops. Just because you can't see drops reserved for heroes/hench is why people think they "steal" drops.

Bingo! This is exactly why.
